So I’ve had a super busy week this week!!!! Let’s
start at the beginning...
This week from Monday to Wednesday we had many lessons
and we felt really good. We knew that transfer calls were Thursday and we kind of
both knew Elder Porter was leaving. We both thought that I would be staying and
possibly training. So Thursday came and we patiently waited for transfer calls.
At 1 o'clock we started to get desperate because President Brinkerhoff calls
all the missionaries who get new assignments to inform them before transfers
come out. So it was getting late and still no call. Elder Porter was near tears
because he has been here a very long time and was hoping for a new area. I was
hoping to be able to train. Then at 2:30 the phone rang and Elder Porter and I
nearly jumped out of our skin. So we both talked to President and I will be
going to the SHELLEY SOUTH STAKE finishing training an Elder Blake and Elder
Porter will be going to St. Anthony with none other than Elder Standage. We
both were jumping up and down when we ended the phone call! For those of you
who don't know, Shelley is where my grandpa was raised. I have a lot of
ancestry there. So our week was a whirlwind after that. The next day I had to
get shipped up to Idaho Falls for training on how to be a trainer, while Elder
Porter stayed with Elder Malau'Ulu and did work in his area. The training was
great and there was about an hour break where I may have gone to see some old
friends from Idaho Falls area. The Hammons were happy to see me :)
While I was in Idaho Falls I kept on getting texts
from members in Pocatello asking me if I was caught in the rain. I didn't fully
understand what they meant until I got back to Pocatello to find a torrential
downpour. Roads were blocked, houses were flooded, and it was terrible. It
rained for 6 hours!!!! So we got back in town, changed into work clothes and
ran to our friends, the Kepler's, house. It felt like a battle against the
elements!!! Water was pouring into their basement as we tried to pump it out
and dig trenches to divert water. All in all Brother Kepler says we diverted
about 1000 gallons from getting in but the damage was still pretty bad. So we
spent the next 24 hours after the storm bouncing from house to house tearing
out carpet and knocking down drywall and removing damaged items. After
that we spent time going to our investigators and members and saying our
goodbyes. It’s been kind of sad, I was only here for 3 months but I've come to
love the members and investigators here. I am really excited to go to Shelley
though :) And I’ll be back in my old zone, The Idaho Falls South Zone. I'll be
close to some of my former investigators :)
I know that this Church is the restored Church of
Jesus Christ. I know it with all the conviction of my heart. I know that this
work is the work of the Salvation of Souls. There is no greater work. I love
you all and pray for you!
Love,
Elder Rash
**Some additional info from our email chat with Elder Rash:
He will be in a car area. He will have the southern portion of Shelley, Idaho which also includes a lot of farming area thus the need for a car. His great grandfathers old farm is in this area. One of the ward mission leaders lives in Grandma and Grandpa Davis' old house in Shelley. There is a non-member woman living in the old farmhouse south of town according to Papa Bruce so Elder Rash will definately have to make contact there at the old farm.
As strange as this is he is a little bummed to be in a car area. He says he has been in walking areas and has really began losing weight. He is concerned about not walking as much. Certainly he will find out that he has limited mileage and I am sure he will end up still walking many places.
He is extremely excited to be in the Shelley area. He told us that he had really wanted to serve there and had contemplated telling President Brinkerhoff his desires to serve in that area but had not discussed it with President Brinkerhoff. He was thrilled when the call came to the Shelley area.
Caleb doesn't know what his new address will be yet. He will find out Wednesday when they make the moves.
