Well... I'm in SHELLEY, IDAHO!!! Land of my
forefathers! And can I just say, I LOVE IT HERE!!!! The people are so nice and
the air here is sooo much cleaner than Pocatello or Idaho Falls. So let me tell
you about my week.
Last week I said my goodbyes to all the wonderful
people I met it Pocatello. Wednesday morning was transfers, so, bright and early
we loaded up the "Transfer Train" and left Pocatello to the Great
Land Northward. We arrived in Idaho Falls, I grabbed my luggage, found Elder
Harding (the father of my step son) did an exchange of keys, phone, important
information, and Elder Blake, and then we were off!
This is what I have learned about Elder Blake so far;
He is the 6th of 8 kids. He is from Carrolton, TX.
He is 1 month older than me. He went to a year at BYU
before his mission.
He is an AMAZING juggler!!!! He does tricks I've never
seen before!
His dad works for Exxon.
He is a big fan of the TV show. Psych.... so we get
along well ;)
His family names the sons after the last names of
important ancestors so his first name is Malan( May Lan).
He and I have a very similar sense of humor so we
laugh a lot.
So after we left the transfer sight in Idaho Falls I
decided to make a few quick stops to some old friends in IF :) and then it was
off to Shelley.
Shelley is so beautiful! We cover the Shelley South
Stake which has the 3rd, 5th, 7th, Foundry, Jameston, Sand creek, Mountain
View, Taylor, and the YSA wards. I spent the next few days meeting Bishops,
Ward Mission Leaders, and the Stake President. Side note: There are some REALLY
nice houses in Shelley!!!!
I also met with the other Elders in my District, Elder
Soloman, who came out with me, is my District leader, He is training an Elder
Carter. And then there is a set of Spanish Sisters that cover all of Shelley
and Firth. And that is it for my district. We went out to eat at MR. Pizza, (which
is right down the road from the Cox Honey store) and then I got shone around
the area a little bit. After that it was just Elder Blake and I again. I
decided the first house I wanted to go to and I went to go see my Great
Grandparents old house. :) That was really neat.
This Sunday was super busy!!! Meeting leadership and
bearing my testimony in as many wards as possible! We went to 7th ward, and met
with a Bishop Cox, who I found out is the Father in Law to my Cousin Camee! Who
I saw as well!!! That was really fun :) It’s also fun getting to meet people
who knew my ancestors!
Also being close to IF, I decided to give an old friend
Michael a call. He was really happy to hear from me and I was happy to hear
from him. He kind of fell off the wagon a little bit as far as talking with
missionaries and going to church. But I think I can change that. :)
So I have to tell you something pretty awesome that
happened yesterday. I met JAMES BOND. Well actually he is a Less Active member.
But his name is legitimately James Bond!!!!! Not only did we meet him, but
turns out he is a high expert marksman for the Marines! AND he invited us to a
BBQ today and he said they would be shooting guns!!! Now I told him we aren't
allowed to FIRE weapons.... but we can hold them and admire and drool as much
as we want! He said he would teach us some military shooting tactics and I
think Elder Blake and I nearly fainted! I'm really excited for that!
Lastly, I love the view of Shelley I get when we are
up on Taylor Mountain. On a clear day we can see everything from Arco to the
Temple in IF. It’s so pretty. Next time I’m up there I will snap a picture. And
Shelley sunsets are pretty much the best thing in the world.
Harvest is coming up, which means one thing, two
actually.
1) Everyone will be working in the fields and we have
offered our help to some farmers.
2) SPUD DAY!!!!!! It’s crazy but Shelley actually
celebrates a holiday for Potatoes!!! It’s a big party and the main event is
known as the SPUD TUG! It’s a tug or rope war where the losers don't fall into
a pit of mud, but a pit of MASHED POTATOES!!!!!!!!! I'm looking forward to that
the most!!!!
Well that is everything. Wow, I’m pretty sure this is
my longest email ever!!!! You are welcome mom! ;) hahah
I love all you guys and can't wait to hear from you!
Love,
Elder Rash
First P-Day in Shelley. At the Fosters on Labor Day!
