Well this week has been jam
packed with stuff!!!! Let’s see if I can tell you all of it...
First off... Elder Malau’Ulu
is no longer with me. He left me to go down to Pocatello and be a District
Leader. I've had some communication with him and he seems to be doing well. My
new companion is Elder Standage. You will never guess where he is from...
Gilbert AZ. Yep I guess president thought it'd be fun to put the valley boys
together! He is a very good missionary and very knowledgeable about scripture
and doctrine. It's been interesting adapting to his character. He is not like
Elder Malau’Ulu. He is more somber and straight laced. We have taught many
lessons and we work well together. Whenever I slip up and stumble on my words
he is right there to clarify. He likes to cook so today he went on a Walmart
shopping spree buying cooking supplies. I on the other hand just bought the
essentials... and Oreos... got to have the Oreos. Hahah
This week there was a lot
of lessons being taught. Our mission added a new Key Indicator (Numbers like
who you teach, do you bring a member, did you get any referrals) Now we track
how many lessons we teach members. We are on fire with teaching!!!!!! :) :)
Because I'm not a trainee anymore and I've been in the area longer it pretty
much means I call the shots. At least for now. So I've been correlating with
WML's, Bishops, and Members to set up teaching appointments, dinner
appointments, and pretty much everything else! It’s awesome to be able to stay
busy all day talking to people and teaching. I never think about myself
anymore... It's kind of nice!!! A lot of responsibility is on me to find new
investigators and help them get baptized.
This week we have 2 new
investigators! One of them, Emma, is 9 and her cousins are members and she sees
how they act and she truly wants to follow the example of Jesus Christ! We
taught her the first lesson and her parents, who are less active, participated.
It was a good experience.
Jessica is doing
amazing!!!! I can SEE the light and excitement in her eyes when we talk about
baptism and the gospel! We had a minor setback this week... We went over to
talk to her about baptism. We showed her the questions she will be asked beforehand
just so she is prepared. She said "I have to be off probation before I can
get baptized...?" My heart sank... She has been on probation for a DUI
that happened a couple years ago. We told her gently that "yes you need to
be off probation before you can get baptized" We braced ourselves for her
to be angry and upset. She simply took a deep breath, looked us in the eye, and
said "ok, if this is what the Lord wants, then I'll wait..." She is
AWESOME!!!! She is willing to submit to all this which her Father seeth fit to
give her. She is so humble and hungry for the gospel, she studies ALL day!!!!
P.S I JUST GOT A TEXT FROM JESZYKA!!!! SHE IS NO LONGER ON PROBATION MAY 11,
SHE WILL BE BAPTIZED!!!!!!!! :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D
Michael is going strong as
well! He is still plugging along and we are working with him to overcome these
last couple stumbling blocks and he is Golden!!
Zach is doing well! He
knows what he needs to do and is doing it! He is super smart and very strong
willed! hahah
This week we also got to
help in a baptism. One of our former investigators got baptized. Because of
boundaries changing and stuff we had to give him over to the sister
missionaries. So, because we have the key to the building they asked us to go
fill the font. No specific, just go fill it. We knew that the baptism was at
10:30 so I thought I'd get there an hour early to fill it... What I WASN'T told
was that for one, the font faucet only puts out about 4 gallons a minute....
into a 500 GALLON FONT!!!!! AND no one told me that the drain plug was BROKEN!
so it would continually leak as we tried to fill it.... As the baptism got
closer and we saw that this wasn't going to work we started freaking out! One
of the ward leaders jokingly said "someone grab buckets to fill it!"
It sounded like the best option to me so we went to work. I along with 10 other
missionaries got buckets and used EVERY FAUCET in the building to fill the
font!!! And still we were getting nowhere! Eventually they couldn't postpone
any longer and Erick got baptized... In about 3 feet of cold water....
UGHHH!!!! hahaha but it still was a good experience for him. A baptism is a
baptism, no matter what the conditions are. And who got ALL the credit for this
font experience...? ME ;) the guy who was just doing what he was told! hahah
It's ok though! It’s an experience I'll look back on and laugh at! :)
The work is going well
here. I hope you all know I care and think about you often. You are in my
prayers!
Love,
