Week 11: Warming Up and Saddling Up the Bikes

Hello again!!!

Elder Rash here!!! But then again, this is my blog... if it was someone else that would be weird! hahaha :)

It's been another really good week this week! We've stayed really busy this week and have been working hard on finding more people to teach! This week we found two new people who seem interested in the Gospel. One we met in a not so nice part of town. We were going to see an investigator to set up an appointment, he was across the street and yelled at us to "Come give him the Good Word" as he put it. As we got closer we could see he was drunk. (We've been dealing with a lot of drunks lately) but he was insistent that we talk to him. We could see he wasn't in a good place so we decided to try and help. His name is Pepe. We went inside and began to talk to him. He said he had been having a hard time, that he was lost and stuck in a hole. We told him that we could help him get out of that hole. We told him that his Heavenly Father loves him very much. We couldn't stay very long because his family was coming over to celebrate his birthday. But as we said a closing prayer he began to cry. He invited us to come back and we were on our way.

We were also down in a nicer part of town TRYING to find someone to teach. I've mentioned before it is very hard to find someone to teach in nicer parts of town. But as we were contacting former investigators and part member families we stopped at this one house. A man came out of the garage and came up to us. He was very friendly! As we got a closer look we saw his eyes were glazed over.... YUP he was drunk!!!! hahaha He told us that it probably wasn't a good time right then (obviously) but that we could come back on Wednesday! :) We were really happy!!!

We had a monthly correlation meeting with the stake president this past Sunday. So all the missionaries in the stake (4 sets) all got together and told the stake president about all their investigators. Now, not to toot my own horn BUT we, by far, had the most investigators. I hadn't taken the time to count them all up until then but we have 14 investigators and a lot more less active members that we work with! I know that the Lord truly does prepare people to receive the Gospel. So let’s talk about some of our investigators.

Michael and Zach are doing really well! I love these guys so much!!! We watched Joseph Smith, Prophet of the Restoration with them. Michael really wanted to know more about Joseph Smith so we thought that movie would be a good way to share some more about Joseph. They were at church this past week, as usual! I am so anxious to see these guys get baptized!!!!

Rachel is doing well. We tried to stop by and see how she was doing after her party. She was having a bad day with some personal problems. She asked us to pray for her, which we were already doing but we said we would and we set up a time to come back and see how she is.

Annette and Doug are getting ready to move so we are planning on helping them with that. They are moving out of our area so we are coordinating with the other missionaries to come and help as well so they can meet them.

We went over to see Justen this week. He is awesome as always!!!! He is such a funny kid!

This week we also have been going over to a member’s house to help him with a talk he gave last Sunday. I mentioned the Hammon Family in one of my previous letters. Auki Hammon is 18 and getting ready to serve a mission. He gave a talk this last Sunday on repentance. The Hammon Family is amazing! They really took me in like I was family. And this week I found out, I actually am family!!! It took a little reminder from my father who mentioned that we had Hammons in our family history. I looked it up and told Brother Hammon. Turns out we are 3rd Cousins!!! Hahaha It was so cool to go over our family history together! :) I love the Hammons, and they make really good food ;)

All in all its been a really good week :) We began riding bikes now that it is warming up. Let me just say, there are a lot of thorns in Idaho!!!! I've had to take my bike in twice for popped tires!!!!! It’s ridiculous!!!

I just want everyone to know that I have a love for this Gospel. I know that what I am doing is the right thing. I see it in the eyes of those I try and help. I see the joy that it brings to them as they come closer to their Savior and Redeemer. I invite all those who haven't ever talked to missionaries to do so. Especially from being in the perspective of a missionary. It’s really nice when people seek us out rather than the other way around.

I love you all and hope everything is going well.

Love,

Elder Rash
