Week 38: Another story about family but not the family members you would expect to hear about. Its a small world at times.

Well Ladies and Gentlemen,

The time has come once again for another letter from yours truly. ;) May I just say first of all, that things have happened this week that testify to me and let me KNOW that this Church is run by God. No one else in the WORLD could have picked a better place for me to serve than here in Idaho. And General Conference was the second witness of that! I love to hear from the Prophet and Apostles and from the General Authorities and Auxiliaries. To feel of their love for everyone is so neat!
My favorite talk by far was by President Uchtdorf. He nailed both of his talks! But my favorite was on Saturday Afternoon when he talked about "Why should you join this Church?" He listed so many great blessings that as members of this church we take for granted...
Revelation
Prophets
Priesthood
The Restoration
Opportunities to Serve
Temples
Sacrament
Mutual
And tons more I would add if I had my notes with me. I just loved hearing him speak about all we can do in this Church! It was definitely my favorite talk!
Well transfers are this week. And sadly I am losing Elder Blake. :( He has been called to serve down in American Falls with Elder Erickson, who came out with me! Everyone is sad to see him go. He is sad as well. An Elder Viana will be coming here to fill his place. I don't know much about him yet, but I will let you know when he gets here. He has been out a transfer less that I have. And we will be in a co-senior companionship, meaning neither one of us has more say than the other. This will be the first one I've been in so we will see how it goes!
Well now to the story that I have been waiting to share since Wednesday! Elder Blake and I had a dinner appointment with the Duffin Family. We had never met them before but we hit it off nicely! I told Sister Duffin that I was from Mesa and she asked if I knew a Richard and Susan Cluff. :) I was taken back and said yes I knew them pretty well! They were in my stake and I was the same age as their daughter. The Cluff's are her cousins! So we started talking about them and who else we knew. She talked about her mother who lives in a retirement home in Mesa. And how a few years ago they were having trouble with another family member that was threatening her mother. And because she was in Idaho there was little she could do. But she knew a lady in Mesa that new her mother and called her to see if she could help. This kind Lady immediately went and got her mother and let her stay with her and her husband until things could be settled. This lady also called her son in law, a police officer, and he came and talked to the Mother and helped put her at ease as well as keep the family member that was threatening her away. And then Sister Duffin said the name of this wonderful woman who had helped her so much, Starr Davis, my grandmother. And that would mean that the son in law was none other than my Dad! :) Being here in Shelley I expected to hear many stories of my grandpa and great grandparents. What I didn't expect was to hear a story about my dad and grandma. They showed Christ like love in helping this mother and helped put her daughter, Sister Duffin, at ease. I am so proud to be able to say that I have such great examples in my life. If I can grow to be half the person my ancestors have been, I will do just fine in life.
I love this Gospel. I know with every fiber of my being that Thomas S. Monson is a Prophet of God. That he was been called to lead this Church in righteousness. I felt it when he stood and spoke. Anyone who has any doubts that this Church is true I would admonish you to, as Jesus said, "Ye shall know them by their fruits". Look at the fruits of this Gospel. If they be good then they come from God. I have heard and seen the fruits, even just the fruits of my parents and grandparents. I know that this is true. I love you all and hope everything is well.
Before I go I want to talk specifically to my friend, Chase. Don't get discouraged! There are many praying for you. There are people at home that need you, if not, then you wouldn't be home. I'm praying for you buddy! Get well soon and get back out here!
I love you guys! Have a great week!
Love,
Elder Rash
