This week has been GREAT!!!!! Elder Porter and I are
doing some amazing work here in Pocatello! Let’s see if I can fill you all
in...
First off, I'll tell you more about Elder Porter. He
is 23 years old from Layton Utah. He is the oldest of 5. He has a brother
serving a mission in Washington. If you imagine my personality but older, you
have him pretty much! We laugh and joke with each other but we know when to
buckle down and get to work! He has been out for 16 months. He is really good
at connecting with people.
Secondly, my area covers everything from Pole Line Rd
to Yellowstone to Alameda Rd to Quinn and then we cover some apartments outside
of that. We have A LOT of Less Active work to do in this area. The wards are
more like Branches. But we are working with a lot of people to get them active
again. Also when I got here we only had one investigator. Now we have 5.... not
to toot my own horn or anything.... ;) We are working very hard and I know that
Heavenly Father is definitely helping us out!
I had some REALLY cool experiences this week. First
off.... I met the ONLY person in the WHOLE state of Idaho who had never heard
of the Gospel before. His name was Taiyo. He was from Estonia. We came across
him while walking down the road and he stopped us and asked who we were and
what we were doing. He had NO idea what missionaries were or what the Church of
Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints was!!!! Do you know how refreshing it was to
meet someone who didn't have ANY opinion about the Church already???? It’s a
lot easier to fill an empty glass than a full one!!! But we talked to him. He
told us about his country, (he is here on an exchange program selling
textbooks) He was so cool! For all the Ladies out there he was classic
European. Blonde Hair, Blue eyes, chiseled. He served in the Military in
Estonia. And he was 21. He told us he wasn't sure if he believed in God because
he never saw him. We asked if he WANTED to believe and he said yes! So we gave
him a Book of Mormon and a Pamphlet on the Restoration of the Gospel. His eyes
lit up when he said he could have them for free. He said he would definitely
read them and I gave him our information. It was a really cool experience.
Our investigators are doing well. Juan, who is engaged
to a Less Active Member, felt the spirit so much this week. He and Leslie have
been having some difficulties. We gave them both Blessings and they began to cry.
They have been reading the Book of Mormon and are understanding it.
We met with Jessica again this week. She said she
would read the Book of Mormon and Pray about it.
This week we got the chance to go to a baptism. And
guess who got to baptize...? Elder Malau' Ulu. I'll post a picture of it. He
was so excited he forgot his own strength and slammed this kid into the
water!!!! It was so funny! Water sprayed everywhere!!!
Also!!!! Yesterday was my 6 month mark!!!!! So in
classic tradition in the IPM I burnt a tie in memory of my time here so far.
I'll post a picture of that as well. Its crazy how time flies!!!!!
All in all this has been a killer week!!! And it’s
only going to get better!
I love you guys!!!!
Love,
