Week 89: Why A Mission Was Important To Caleb.

Dear Family and Friends,

This week was been good! We didn't have a lot of time to work in our own area due to Exchanges and MLC so the teaching took a hit but it was a spiritually uplifting experience. But let me start off by answering some questions from my Dad....

1. What is your funniest missionary experience that has happened during the past two years?
- Hmm the funniest experience that's happened to me on my mission?? That's a hard one because there have been so many! I've posted a lot of my funny experiences. Probably one of my most favorite experiences was with Elder Larsen. It was late one night and I was frustrated at something, I think it was something that had happened that day that had ticked me off. But anyways, as I was lying in my bed before lights out I get hit in the face with a stream of water! I look up and Elder Larsen is there Holding a spray bottle. I was ticked off so I ignored him, but he just kept on spraying me! So I grabbed from under my bed my own spray bottle and we went to war!!! By the time we were done we were on the ground laughing so hard and completely soaking wet. It taught me a valuable lesson though. It does no good to be angry or frustrated about
things in the past.

2. What is the most common food members feed you that you do not care if you ever eat again?
-Well... here in Idaho we grow spuds. What is a spud? If you are thinking Potato, you're wrong. These aren't just Potatoes; these are high quality, 1 pound potatoes that are the size of your head. On my mission I have had every type of way to cook, bake, fry, and boil a potato possible. Now I don't think I’ll never touch another potato after my mission BUT, eating potatoes will never be the same again.

3. What food have you missed the most while being gone?
-Mexican Food. It’s up here, but we don't get it as much. But when we do, it’s heavenly...

4. Tell us more about your mission president? What makes him such a great leader?
-President Brinkerhoff is from Beaverton Oregon. He is a great man! He carries himself, at all times, with dignity and honor. He knows what he is called to do and he always acts accordingly. He and Sister Brinkerhoff have such a love for the missionaries you can feel it every time they are in the room. What makes him a great leader, in my opinion, is that in everything he does, he has a vision of what he wants the outcome to be. He also doesn't micromanage. He leaves a lot of the work to the missionaries. He trusts us. He loves us. And He makes sure that we act as WE should. HE reminds me a lot of Grandpa Davis.

5. Why was a mission such an important step for you in your life?
-My mission is such an important step in my life because it, very quickly, has taught me principles and values that take a lifetime to develop. I've learned the importance of hard work. I've also learned from watching and observing others, what I want my life to be. And how I can achieve that. And more importantly I think I've learned the "why" of a lot of things. They why is important because it drives us in everything we do. My mission is very important to me because not only have I learned a lot about myself, but I’ve also learned a lot about God, and His son Jesus Christ. I've learned how to be and stay happy. It's like if there was an infomercial on TV about this MIRACLE JUICE that makes everyone happy consistently and Provide solutions to every problem. And some people tried it but some people thought it was too good to be true. That's pretty much how it is teaching the gospel.
But I testify that it IS true! Just live the gospel. Try it out. I promise you it works and will make you happier than anything else.

We had Mission Leadership Council this past week which was awesome! We get to watch the new feature length movie "MEET THE MORMONS" coming out on October 10th to a theater near you! This is super cool! I encourage everyone to invite their friends and go see it! It is like a documentary about the lives of 6 different LDS members and the struggles and diverse lives that they have. We get to watch it early, we'll be watching it tomorrow. We also talked about General Conference coming up! For those of you who don't know General Conference is a meeting held every 6 months where the leaders of the Church give talks on the things that pertain to us in the world we live in. We live in different times than Moses, or Noah, or Jesus so sometimes we need more specific counsel from a Prophet of God on the things that affect us today. It is a great opportunity to hear a Prophet speak and to listen to ways we can improve our lives. I invite everyone to watch it. As well as have specific questions in mind that you need answered, I promise you, and you will receive your answers!

It’s getting colder up here. Almost wintertime! :) It should be fun to walk up and down all these hills in my area with ice and snow on them! ;) WOO HOO! But I really am excited for winter. Mostly because I know I only have to go through part of it, then I’ll be nice and warm down south! :)

Well I love you guys and I hope all is going well! Keep on Keeping on! Endure to the End, and Hold to the Rod, the Iron Rod!

Love
Elder Rash
