Week 84: A General Authority Comes to Visit

Dear Family and Friends!

This week has flown by!!!! So much good work and fun is happening. I've never been so busy and productive on my mission.

So this week we had the opportunity to teach almost all of our investigators. And many of them are preparing for baptism.
Those who are preparing right now are....

Patty: She came to church on Sunday and we had 2 appointments with her last week. She had talked about how she wanted to listen to Church Music throughout the day instead of just watching Frasier, her favorite TV show. So we got her some Church music and her eyes just lit up. She is doing great. She is trying to overcome smoking and drinking coffee but is doing really well.

David: David kind of just dropped out of the sky. He had been on some old records but all the records say that he was like a phantom. Really hard to get a hold of and even harder to make an appointment with. There was a phone number on his record though so we decided to give it a shot. First time we called he answered and was more than happy to meet with us. And he has kept every appointment we've had thus far. He's come to church and wants to keep coming. He's read the Book of Mormon twice and the D&C once! He is trying to give up smoking as well.

Ashton: Ashton is 11 and he reminds me a lot of Devon. I'm not sure why. I think he just looks a lot like Devon did when he was that age. Ashton really has a testimony and is a really deep thinker. His Dad is starting to come back to church as well. Really great family. Ashton enjoys acting and has been in some TV shows too. Yep... I’m pretty much teaching a celebrity.... ;)

Amy: Amy is awesome! She keeps every appointment, she is eager to set them up, and has come to church twice. She is in her 20's and has some health problems but is working through them. She loves the ward she is in. We took her on a tour of the church yesterday and it went well. She has a son that isn't with her right now but is working hard to get him back.

Miles: Miles is 11 as well. His family is active but because of some family conflict he hasn't been baptized. He's great! He's come to church and is really prepared.

Jesse: Jesse is 9 and just moved back into our area. His family has been struggling lately but wants to start coming back to church. He is a great kid with a big heart. Just getting him to sit still for the lessons is the issue right now.

And then we have many more people we are teaching. So I have 2 cool stories for today.

So for all our appointments with David we've had really high caliber members come with us, not planning on it, but it just kind of happened. So for our first lesson we brought the Stake Patriarch, for the next appointment at the church we brought the Stake President, and then the Bishop after that. So after that appointment we were joking how all we needed to do now was get our Mission President to come teaching with us.... The very next day we got a phone call from President. "Elder's, I’m free tonight, do you have any teaching appointments I could come with you for?"
"..................... YES! President of course!" hahaha so we taught two of our Investigators with President Brinkerhoff there! A little nerve racking but it was awesome! :) He has such a strong testimony and the way he teaches the gospel just flows. He teaches the gospel without even trying!

We also had a General Authority come visit the Mission. Elder Carlos A Godoy came to visit and we had a Special Leadership Counsel as well as a Fireside for all the missionaries in the Pocatello area. In the Meeting Elder Godoy talked about how he viewed us through the eyes of a General Authority as well as a Father preparing his youngest son to serve a mission. He got emotional as he talked about how proud our parents would be to see us as grown men and women in the gospel. He then went on to joke with us and we had a lot of laughs and it was a great experience. Elder Merkley, myself, Elder Downey, and Elder Hales even got to sing at the Fireside. Our group name is "Behold the Men".... well at least that's what we call ourselves. We sounded great as we sang "Brightly Beams Our Father's Mercy"

Well that's all I got! Today we are going to a Trampoline Park with the Zone. Then afterwards Elder Merkley and I are going to a member’s home to hang out in their Sauna. :)

Love you guys!

Elder Rash
