Week 79: A Spiritual District Meeting

Hey Family!

I hope everyone is having a fun time at LAKE POWELL!!!! I'll definitely be missing it this week but I’m excited to hear all the stories next week!

So this week was a really fun week! Our last P day activity was a success! It worked really well with water paints in water guns and it was a good way to cool off! We had water guns, spray bottles, and even two super soakers! All with green, red, blue, or yellow paint in them! It was a BLAST! Some people even resorted to throwing pitchers of paint water on everyone!

Our District meeting this week was really spiritual! For those of you who don't know, every week the missionaries within about 10 miles or so will get together and have a meeting where we talk about the successes of the week and how we can improve and some missionaries are called on to give trainings on how to improve in certain areas of the work. Sister Barnett and Dearden spoke on how to better find people to teach and on the Standard of Excellence, Which is a document stating our goals as a mission and bullet points of things we can do to achieve those goals. It’s pretty much like a mission statement with a promise. If we...

-Teach when we find someone and Find when we are teaching someone

-Invite someone to be baptized daily

-BOLDLY ask for referrals at every teaching opportunity

-Try and teach 20 lessons a week

-Study the Sons of Mosiah in the Book of Mormon

-Effective daily planning

-Find and teach families

... Then we are promised by our leaders that we can Baptize 2 people a month. It is a big, bold challenge because on average the mission maybe does half of that. But we have been promised blessings and we know that success will come as we are obedient!

So my thoughts today were on how Members of the Church can help? Elder Larsen and I gave a talk yesterday in one of our wards about this. Elder Larsen did a PHENOMINAL job addressing fears and concerns when it comes to people doing missionary work. He was bold and very forward as he asked for more member missionary work and for people to lay aside their fears and just do it!!!! It was awesome! Our mission President has even asked our zone to spearhead a trial program, developed by Elder Larsen and me. Where we assign a ward a night in which they fill our appointments and they take us out. It puts a lot of the ownership of the work with the Ward, where it should be. We told President about this and how effective it’s been and so he wants our whole Zone to try it and if it works then it'll be taken to the whole mission.

So this P'day we are having a duel zone activity with the IF south zone (I’m in the Lincoln zone, FYI) we are having a HUGE waterslide and some party games! It should be really fun! The family supplying the Waterslide is the Smith family from my first area! So I’ll get to see them today as well! I'm really excited!

Elder Larsen and I are doing great together! He is definitely my most favorite companion, besides maybe my trainer. We laugh and goof off, when appropriate. And it really helps blow off steam when the area isn't doing as well as we'd like. Sadly though, we don't think Elder Larsen and I will be together next transfer in a week and a half. We are both out the same amount of time, so we can't go home together from the same area; we also know that Elder Larsen is such a stellar missionary that they will probably put him in leadership next transfer. They are also thinking about closing down one of the areas in our stake so maybe we both could be gone... I don't know. But there is about a 95 percent chance that Elder Larsen won't be with me next transfer. :(

Well, that’s all I got folks! It’s been a slow week work wise! But a busy week working with Stake Leaders to try and get the work going strong so they DON'T need to close one of our areas. The stake President is on board with helping us as much as possible. So hopefully we see the ward participation skyrocket.

I love you guys and stay safe on the Lake! Ryland and Devon, don't do anything stupid.
Shelbie, be good to all the little ones,
