Dear Family,
Everything
here is great! I made it to the MTC safely as you already know. Reese and
Melissa took good care of me. I’ve learned so much already and I haven’t even
been here for 24 hours yet! All the spiritual expierences!
First off
let me tell you about my MTC comp. His name is Elder Churinan (Sur-i-nan) and
he is a really cool guy! We get along well so far. When we first got here they
rushed us into training orientation. No time to get settled, which I’m kinda
glad for! We then had missionary reenactments with live actors playing well
thought out characters! I thought that it would be something Tobie may want to
look into. The actors were allowed to do anything and say anything they wanted.
In one room there was a big black lady named Lou Ana. She invited the Elders in
and let them talk. The Elders struggled to find common ground with her and in
talking with the instructor (who was like the scene by scene narrator/spiritual
guide) one of the Elders made the mistake of saying, “Its hard to teach someone
who doesn’t want to learn!” Lou Ana tore him a new one!!! She got in this
Elders face and said, “I let you in my house. I listened. I got bombarded with
questions I don’t know the answers to. It’s late. I could be anywhere else but
here!” Then she dropped the bombshell on the whole class. “I have cancer! My
bones ache! I could be in bed right now but instead I’m listening to you. And you
say I don’t want to learn?” The whole room was dead quiet. I think the Elders
lost that round but everyone learned a valuable lesson. We as missionaries are
here to help and love people! Not just preach to them. How do you preach to
someone you don’t know? It was a powerful moment of learning and of the Spirit.
Well, I hope everything’s alright at home. By the time you get this I’ll be
able to e-mail but I had to tell you of this experience. I know this is a short
letter but I don’t have that much time! I love you all and think of you often.
Stay safe and pray often.
Love Always,
Elder Rash
